The Connecticut Health Care Security Act would provide universal health insurance for all Connecticut residents, allow free choice of any licensed health care giver, return medical decision making to health care givers, and lower health care costs.

This bill is currently under consideration by the Public Health Committee of the state legislature. Members of this committee need to know that the public wants this bill raised for a public hearing. Please write to the chairs and members of the public health committee, and the democratic leadership of both houses, to let them know that you support a public hearing on PHB 5872 in order to learn how Connecticut can have universal health care while decreasing health care costs. The committee has only until February 8th to raise this bill, so please write now. Your letter definitely counts.

The Connecticut Health Care Security Act (PHB 5872), a single payer, universal health care bill,  was not raised for a public hearing by the Public Health Committee by the February 8, 2001 deadline. Despite the support of three out of six members of the steering committee for a public hearing on the bill, the steering committee did not recommend raising it.  This effectively kills the bill for 2001.
