A busy, frustrating summer is coming to a close. Perhaps this Fall and coming year will be more fruitful for those of us working for a universal health care system.

We’ve spent over a year, trying to get our State legislature to re-consider the egregious cuts in HUSKY, CONNPACE and Medicaid, with not much luck. The Governor refused to reconsider a ‘millionaires’ tax’, which would have been ample to give full medical, mental and dental benefits to our most needy citizens. The Department of Social Services stood firm on the cutbacks.

This Fall, the coalition put together by Sheldon Toubman, Esq., of the New Haven Legal Assistance Association, will reconvene to see what we can do to help those in need. More than 10% of our population has no insurance, or is underinsured, and this should be of concern to everyone.

Robert Kennedy’s quote comes to mind: ”Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples of hope build a current, that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance”. Now, we ask all of you to stand up with us and help us achieve social justice, universal health care for all.

We need your voice and help in getting to a true universal health care for all – Everybody In, Nobody Out!
