NAOMI E. SHAIKEN, PRESIDENT CT CALL TO ACTION, INC. 100 WELLS STREET, APT. 902 HARTFORD, CT 06103 [860] 728-0058 e-mail: alneshaiken@snet.net NEWSLETTER- November 2002 The events of the last few weeks have been politically and emotionally overwhelming. Since this is being written before the elections, I have no way to offer any comfort or good news. The loss of Senator Paul Wellstone is enormous, both politically and personally, since he was a friend of ours. We have lost our lone voice in the U.S. Senate for justice, peace, and health care for all. In October, The CT Call To Action’s meeting focused on Bankruptcy, and its effect on providers and patients. Although we had a very small turnout, we learned how our Federal Bankruptcy Court considers each case. [For information and written material, contact me.] We continue to fight our battles in the State’s Medicaid positions in denying care and prescriptions to the neediest of our population. If you can help us, we would appreciate you contacting us. We have contacted the American Medical Students Association [AMSA] at Yale Medical School and UConn Medical School. Together, we are planning a statewide Rally sometime in late Spring on universal health care. November 8th we shall attend the Physicians For National Health Plan [PNHP] annual meeting in Philadelphia; November 15th is the Universal Health Care Action Network [UHCAN] annual meeting in Baltimore. We shall report back to you on these important meetings in the next Newsletter. Both these meetings will shape the discussion and activities for the coming year on Health Care For All – Everybody In, Nobody Out. Don’t despair! We are still in the fight for Universal Health Care – it is a human right! |
