The Connecticut Coalition for Universal Health Care was formed in January, 1999.  The Coalition's accomplishments to date include:

1999 Accomplishments

  • Introduced a single payer health insurance bill into the Connecticut Legislature (Bill No. 7030) in early 1999.  The bill passed the CT House Labor Committee on April 6, 1999 by a 9 to 5 vote.

  • On March 18, 1999 the coalition held a rally at the state capitol in support of universal health care bill #7030.  The rally was attended by over 100 people.

  • Through the efforts of the Coalition, a hearing on Bill No. 7030 was held before the Connecticut House Labor Committee on March 18, 1999.  More than 40 people testified in person or submitted written testimony to the committee.  The Connecticut legislature's cable network taped the hearing and broadcasted repeats of the hearing several times during March and April.  The Coalition also made it's own edited tape of the rally and the hearings.

  • The Coalition held two free concerts to publicize Bill No. 7030:

    • An April, 1999 concert featuring Tom Rush and Lui Collins

    • A May, 1999 concert featuring Tom Rush, Odetta and Paul Winter
